Comics :: David's Mighty Men: Eleazar

This was done as part of a favor for a friend of mine, who also happens to lead the men's bible-study group in which I take part. Chad and I have been talking over the past year or so about how cool it would be to see a live-action film based on the events surrounding David and his Mighty Men, recorded in the books of Samuel and Chronicles. What you see on this page... is a creative, fictitious interpretation. This is how I picture it happening in my mind, but if you're curious to see the original, pure version of the story check out 1 Chronicles 11, and 2 Samuel 23. I wish that TONS more detail were included in these Scriptures, but instead there is just so much that is left to the imagination and/or conjecture. Some scholars say Eleazar fought by himself, and some say that David was there with him. I happen to believe the latter... No, it doesn't say specifically that coagulated blood is what froze Eleazar's hand to the hilt of his blade, but it makes sense to me if that were so. I've been reading a book on this very subject from the 1950's written by R.O. Corvin, who in turn was influenced by Josephus --- both of whom have reinforced my opinions.

Anyways, the accounts given in Scripture of David's Mighty Men are an amazing set of stories that reach near Samson-like proportions, and Chad and I both hope that these ideas (only if Divinely inspired!) will take off, end up in the right hands, and see the silver screen.

Rather than work with vector on this drawing, I did it more expressively, using pencils, pens, PITT greyscale brush-markers, and even one, big fat, red crayola marker :)
