In addition to being a filmmaker, Josh Shelton is a trained musician with a BA in music composition who has written original music in all genres including pop, hip hop, rock, jazz big bands and film scores. He composed A Cappella hip hop songs for the NYC Off-Broadway incubator, Ars Nova, with musical direction by Justin Mendoza (In The Heights, Book of Mormon). Shelton has performed as a trumpet soloist and bandleader extensively across the United States as well as in Europe and South America. He has also had the pleasure of playing in the opening bands for Ray Charles, Patti LaBelle, George Benson as well as hip-hop legends De La Soul, Biz Markie, and KRS-One.
While film is his focus and his primary way to tell stories and make a living, Josh is always looking for ways to bring the two worlds of film and music together in his work and often provides his expertise in both mediums to his productions.
