WEST COAST STORY
a musical by Josh Shelton

In the fall of 2021, Josh Shelton was hired to write the script, music & lyrics for West Coast Story, an uplifting musical film in the vein of In The Heights meets Ted Lasso. Below are the DEMO recordings, performed by Shelton.

 

Over the course of 8 weeks, Shelton wrote all 8 songs as well as the 40 page script. The story follows MAYA, a woman looking to change her life by going back to school. Shelton's pitch for the series was to create a character for the audience to aspire toward with songs that will both relay the struggle but ultimate create anthems that we can all put on whenever we are in need of some motivation, encouragement, or just put a smile on our face as we are reminded of the universal struggles on the road to success.
